Welcome Autumn

There is a moment in the year, somewhere in the middle of September, where you feel that a change is gonna come. Morning breeze is fresh and days start to become slowly shorter and shorter, light is not so bright anymore and everything sets an unspeakable different tone. Autumn is coming. There is a part inside of me that sings to summer Let’s Stay Together and wishes that him and I could smoothly continue our dance. Him shining on me and I, playingRead more

Going Home

Although I am living in The Netherlands for almost 16 years, I start to wonder when I will  feel at home here? And actually what is a home, when do you feel at home and where is mine? During the first years here I was definitely a “stranger”, I knew I had to learn so much from Dutch language to boring cheese sandwiches for lunch. But even if I did my best to learn Dutch and speak it as muchRead more

Down to Earth

Today I had the privilege to photograph my good friend and ceramic artist Claudia de Koster while she was making new vases. It is truly impressive to witness this process and see how a square piece of clay can be transformed in so many different objects with just a bit of water, lots of patience and wise fingers. May you all have a creative day. Love, Carole Rey All rights reserved Carole ReyRead more

Memories of Gold, Jonquières summer 17

This summer, hubby, kids and I went to the south of France, in the Hérault province, for a couple of days. We stayed there four nights and three days and this little amount of time was long enough to bring back so much memories and emotions to me. We stayed at Château de Jonquières a beautiful castle in the middle of vineyards with enchanting guest rooms, succulent breakfast with homemade yogourts and jams and last but not least delicious wine they produceRead more

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Best moments often happened by surprise, when you expect it the least. This is exactly my story with the oh so lovely and beautiful conceptstore NYBörjan. I discovered it somewhere last year while I was in Gorinchem with a friend in the hunt for a good coffee. We came across that very special store where delicate objects, clothes, jewellery, magazines were sold. Attracted by what we saw in the window, we forgot our desire for a coffee and went inside. And thenRead more

Looking for Jacqueline Du Pré

Few days ago, while flipping through the last issue of Kinfolk magazine my eyes were attracted by some black and white photos of a woman cellist. It was Jacqueline Du Pré. I read the article, contemplated for a long a time the photos and searched online for a video of the Elgar Cello Concerto she performed under the leading of her beloved husband Daniel Barenboim. From the introduction my heart started to melt, I had a lump in my throat and got the chills.Read more

The unknown flower

When I saw this flower at my local florist, I instantly felt attracted and curious. It has fascinated me right away with its spicy and soft aspect . I’m just totally, enormously, definitely in love with each part of it. Outside, inside. The lines, shapes, structure, colors, contrasts. I could stare at it for hours and the more I look at it, the more I feel blessed and grateful. As you know, music plays an important part in my creative process, aRead more

Souvenirs

Since a week or two, for a reason or an other, I have Baudelaire’s poem A une passante in my mind.  The verses ” Ô toi que j’eusse aimée, ô toi qui le savais!”/”O you whom I would have loved, O you who knew it!” haunt my mind, like an endless rhapsody. I studied this poem when I was in high school and then at university; it’s a classic and you are expected to master all what it contains. But though I was trained toRead more

In my solitude

Last week I went to the local market. In the small (very) traditional city where I live (20k inhabitants), there are not much things to do. There is a tiny old harbour, one museum, few restaurants, couple of mainstream shops, supermarkets, a superb florist and eighteen hairdressers, yes eighteen. So you can satisfy your hunger, have a walk along old boats, visit the museum, treat yourself or your dear ones with beautiful bouquets and definitely change the color or theRead more
